Many heart rate monitors require that you strap the device around your chest for accurate measuring of your heart beat. A strapless unit counts the heart rate from your radial, or wrist, pulse and looks like a watch, but with additional side buttons. Changing the battery will depend somewhat on the manufacturer. Since most models have the same basic setup, replacing the battery should be similar regardless of the unit.

Step 1

Purchase the appropriate battery for your monitor. This will probably be a CR2032 3V Lithium battery. However, you should take both the device and manual with you to the store just in case you need help from the clerk.

Step 2

Turn the device over and locate the battery lid. You should see a circular cover with a slot in the center. This covers the lithium battery that runs the monitor.

Step 3

Insert a coin into the center slot of the battery cover and turn counterclockwise. Turn until the cover becomes loose and pull it off.

Step 4

Flip the device over and tap it against your palm. The battery section should face your hand. This will remove the old battery.

Step 5

Look at the replacement battery. One side has a negative or "-" sign, and the other has a positive or "+" sign. Insert the new battery into the battery compartment with the positive sign up.

Step 6

Replace the battery lid. Insert the coin into the slot and turn clockwise until the cover is tight.

Tips and Warnings

  • Read the documentation supplied with your heart rate monitor for specific information on that model.
  • Avoid touching the battery as much as possible. Handle the piece with your fingers, touching the circular edges only. Touching the front or back of the battery may contaminate the leads.

Things You'll Need
