Due to its famously towering granite cliffs and waterfalls, as well as the fact that it is a world-renown hiking and climbing destination, Yosemite National Park is an outdoor enthusiast's wonderland. In April, some portions of the park are often closed due to the snowy remnants of winter weather. However, April, and spring in general, is the best time to view the valley's waterfalls.
April In Yosemite
Camping in Yosemite National Park in April has both its perks as well as drawbacks. Generally, the crowds haven't arrived in the park April. This means that Yosemite Valley will be far less busy, allowing you to hike in relative solitude compared to the more active seasons. On the other hand, several areas of the park are still commonly closed such Tuolumne Meadows, Crane and Porcupine Flats and generally any area off of Highway 120 and Tioga Pass, which rarely opens before Memorial Day Weekend.
Outdoor Activities
While camping in Yosemite in April is limited to three areas---Yosemite Valley, Wawona and Hodgdon---all of them are in close proximity to a diverse range of outdoor and adventure activities. Go rock climbing at any of the climbing areas of the valley such as Church Bowl, Royal Arches, Sentinel Rock and Swan Slab, to name but a few of the options. Hiking is possible from several Yosemite Valley trailheads such as Vernal and Nevada Falls. But, since much of the snow in the 7,000-foot elevation range does not generally melt until mid-May, park officials advise you to stay at moderate elevations. Depending on the trail access in certain areas, it may still be possible to snowshoe in April.
Yosemite Valley Camping
Not all of the campgrounds of Yosemite Valley are open in April, but, those that are offer access to recreational opportunities. As of August of 2010, camping costs are $5 per night and 35 tent spaces are available, assuming the campground is not full. The other option is Upper Pines which can accommodate RVs up to 35 feet. Also open year-round, Upper Pines camp sites cost $20 per night as of August of 2010.

Camping here is limited to the Wawona Campground, which is open year-round.
