According to MayoClinic.com, cellulite is fat that appears as dimpled skin, most commonly on the thighs, buttocks and hips. Some people opt for expensive medical treatments for cellulite, including dermabrasion and laser treatments. However, there are some home remedies that can help to get rid of minor cellulite using all-natural essential oils and carrier oils, according to Jennie Harding, author of "The Essential Oils Handbook: All the Oils You Will Ever Need for Health, Vitality and Well-Being."

Step 1

Combine ¼ tsp. juniper essential oil, ¼ tsp. rosemary essential oil, ¼ tsp. lemon essential oil, ¼ tsp. lavender essential oil, ¼ tsp. geranium essential oil and 12 tsp. olive oil in a small, dark-colored bottle.

Step 2

Cover the bottle with a tight-fitting lid or plastic wrap and shake vigorously for 10 to 15 seconds to combine the oils.

Step 3

Pour a small amount of the mixture onto clean fingertips and gently massage it into the area being treated for 4 to 5 minutes.

Step 4

Leave the oil mixture on the skin for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing with lukewarm water and washing with a very mild cleanser and patting the skin dry.

Step 5

Apply your regular moisturizer to the area and allow it to dry without contact with clothing if possible.

Step 6

Repeat this treatment every day in the morning and evening as long as it does cause irritation or redness that does not go away after a few minutes.

Step 7

Stored the oil mixture in a cool, dark place for no more than 60 days or in the refrigerator for 90 days before discarding.

Tips and Warnings

  • You can purchase essential oils through specialty retailers or through most health food stores or stores that sell holistic medicine and natural products. Try to buy therapeutic-grade essential oils for maximum benefit.
  • Never apply essential oils directly to the skin, as they can be extremely drying and can irritate the skin some cases. A good ratio for mixing essential oils is one part essential oil to ten parts carrier oil like olive oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, grapeseed oil, coconut oil or sesame oil, though some remedies do use slightly different ratios. These remedies have not been tested or approved by the Food and Drug Administration, so contact your doctor or dermatologist if you are concerned about their overall safety.
