The historic town of Murfreesboro, located 33 miles south of Nashville, offers several campground options within the region's scenic rolling hills and cedar forests. Recreational activities in and around each campground will keep you fit and active during your stay. Relax and unwind at night around your campfire, as you gaze at the plentiful stars visible in the rural Tennessee sky.
Private Campground Camping
Located 12 miles to the north of Murfreesboro in Smyrna, Tennessee, is the Nashville I 24 Campground. This location offers 100 shady campsites for tents and RVs of any size. RV campsites offer full hookups with up to 50-amp electrical service. On-site facilities include restrooms with hot showers, coin-operated laundry facilities, a playground, a campground store, an RV dump station and propane tanks. You can play a round of basketball on the outdoor half court, or you may opt to swim laps in the large swimming pool.
State Park Camping
Located 17 miles to the northeast of Murfreesboro is the Cedars of Lebanon State Park Campground. This location features 117 campsites with electrical and water hookups; guests may enjoy a picnic table and fire grill. Restroom facilities with hot showers, laundry room, souvenir store and a RV dump station are also located in the campground. In the summer months, you can swim laps in the Olympic -sized pool for a small fee.
KOA Camping
Located 26 miles to the south of Murfreesboro is the award-winning Manchester KOA. Here you'll find 14 tent-only campsites and 40 RV sites with full hookups. Large restroom facilities with hot showers are available in the campground, along with propane tanks and a RV dump station. This location features a work-out room, a swimming pool in the summer months, basketball and volleyball courts, lawn bowling, an outdoor movie theater, a coffee house, and a playground.
Hiking
Enjoy eight miles of hiking trails through forest glades while camping at the Cedars of Lebanon State Park. Try the easy five-mile Hidden Springs Trail; for a shorter excursion, go to the Cedar Forest trailhead for a two-mile hike. Travel five miles from your campsite at the Nashville I 24 Campground to hike the six-mile Stones River Greenway Trail, which offers plenty of scenic river views, as it transverses several Civil War historical sites. Five miles from your campsite at the KOA Manchester is the moderate, three-mile Old Stone Fort Loop Trail; it features Native American village ruins as it traverses around the Little Duck River.
Bicycling
An early morning bike ride around your campground is a great way to start the day or venture outside the entrance to explore the adjoining country roads. While camping at the I 24 Nashville or Cedars of Lebanon campgrounds, transport your bike in your vehicle for the short drive into Murfreesboro for a day of touring the city via the Murfreesboro Greenway System Trails. Park your car at one of the 11 trailheads; bike your way through the town via 10 miles of trails leading to historical sites, scenic areas, restaurants, shops, parks and businesses.
