Beaumont lies along the Gulf coast of eastern Texas. Along with the cities of Port Arthur and Orange, it makes up the Golden Triangle, which is a major oil-based industrial area along the Gulf Coast. Despite its industrial character, Beaumont offers a variety of camping and outdoors recreational activities, as well as the nearby attractions of Sabine Lake and Village Creek State Park.
Campgrounds
There are several campgrounds in and around Beaumont, Texas. The Gulf Coast RV Resort has amenities such as a playground, a swimming pool, an exercise room, free breakfast and laundry facilities. Village Creek State Park offers RV and tent campsites with water and electric hookups; amenities include a bathhouse.
Sabine Lake
Nearby Sabine Lake is in Sabine Pass Battleground State Park and Historic Site; it's a popular boating lake. Fish found here include trophy trout, red fish and flounder. There are group fishing excursions, but some opt to fish online. Even more travelers simply opt to boat or swim, enjoying the wildlife without harming it. Primitive camping is plentiful; there are also campsites with electric and water hook-ups available in the park. Amenities include picnic tables, grills and restrooms with showers.
Village Creek State Park
Beaumont campers can visit or camp at Village Creek State Park. The park consists of 1,090 acres of dense forest; it features Village Creek, which is known for its swimming. Activities include hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, canoeing and camping. Amenities include picnic tables, a group picnic pavilion, a barbecue pit, fire rings, a playground, water fountains, showers and restrooms.
Hiking
Campers in the area enjoy various hiking trails. Village Creek State Park offers hiking along eight miles of trails. The Big Thicket National Preserve has more than 40 miles of trails that can be used by both inexperienced and experienced hikers. Whereas Village Creek State Park offers camping, Big Thicket National Park doesn't have campgrounds or RV hook-ups. Visitors can camp elsewhere in Beaumont and visit Big Thicket National Park, which is open all year.
When to Go
Beaumont sees hot, humid summers; it offers temperate weather the rest of the year. With wintertime temperatures fairly moderate, people can camp comfortably all year round, as long as they bring warm jackets, extra clothing and plenty of blankets in the winter. If you plan on camping in Beaumont in the summer, bring protective rain gear. The hurricane season falls from the beginning of June through the end of November, with rainfall peaking in June.
