The first stage of the Candida Diet is meant to cleanse and detox your body, whereas stage two is meant to kill Candida, or yeast, in your body. Phase one is more restrictive than phase two in terms of the food you can eat. The diet aims to cut out foods such as sugar, yeasted breads and mushrooms that contribute to excess Candida in your body, and emphasizes non-starchy vegetables and proteins like fish and poultry.
Fruit
While fruit is banned in the first stage of the Candida diet, you can eat one piece a day during the second phase, according to "The Candida Directory." However, you are not supposed to eat fruit along with any meals. Instead, consume it either an hour prior to a meal or 3 hours after a meal. Watch out for moldy fruit and ensure you do not eat it. Inspect berries especially well. Also avoid fruit juices and dry fruit.
Dairy
You are allowed to add dairy products back into your diet during the second phase. You can consume buttermilk, kefir, cottage cheese, sour cream, milk and plain yogurt. Yogurt with sweetener, however, is still banned. Cheese needs to be limited, according to the Diet Spotlight website.
Grains
You can eat many grains during the second phase of this diet. Whole amaranth and amaranth flour are allowed. Buckwheat puffed cereal is OK, as is buckwheat flour. Corn puff cereal, popcorn, blue corn meal and hominy grits are part of this diet. Oats are OK, but granola is not. Almost all types of rice and wheat are allowed as well, though prepared flake cereals and sprouted grain cereals made with any of these grains are not allowed.
Other Foods
You can eat most legumes. This includes beans, peas, soybeans, lentils, tempeh and unsweetened soy milk. However, beans and peas that have tomato sauce or sweetener are not allowed, as is sweetened soy milk. All nuts and seeds also are OK, but you need to cook them in the oven for 20 minutes at 250 degrees F first to minimizes the possibility of mold. Vegetables and lean protein also are encouraged, according to the Diet Spotlight website.
