The Alabama Gulf Coast is only 32 miles long, but it offers some of the purest white sand beaches along the entire gulf coastline. Camping facilities are centered around communities of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, centrally located to fishing, nature, hiking, swimming, golf and just plain relaxation.
Try a State Park
The 6,150-acre Gulf State Park hosts 496 sites for recreational vehicles and tent campers--many with full hookups. The park is located in Gulf Shore, Alabama, but has numerous hiking trails which connect with adjacent Orange Beach. There is a large modern bath house and wireless connections are available at the clubhouse. Well marked nature trails abound and Gulf of Mexico fishing is exceptional from the recently built 1,540-foot-long park pier.
Smaller Campground
Bay Breeze RV On The Bay is located on Mobile Bay in Gulf Shores, Alabama, with its own small sandy beach. It's only a short distance from the city of Gulf Shore's public beach. The park has 25 full-service RV sites, which are very well protected by large shade trees. All sites have a nice view of Mobile Bay and sunsets are spectacular. Bay Breeze has a sun deck and fishing dock and invites you to bring your boat and pet along.
Near Gulf Coast Beaches
Doc's RV Park in Gulf Shores is located approximately three miles from gulf coast beaches. The park has 75 sites with full hookups and is pet friendly. There is a swimming pool on the premises and a recreation area equipped with volleyball and horseshoes. If golf is your game, the beautiful Peninsula Golf Club is nearby. Try hiking, bird watching, swimming and fishing at the adjacent 7,000-acre Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge.
Secour National Wildlife Refuge
Gulf Shores is the home of the 7,000-acre Secour National Wildlife Refuge operated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The Refuge's white beaches and dunes are nesting sites for loggerhead, and Kemp's Ridley sea turtles. Hiking the numerous trails will take you through various habitats including scrub forest, fresh and saltwater marshes, fresh-water ponds and swamps and is a birdwatcher's paradise with nearly 400 individual winged migratory species visiting each year.
Mobile County Campgrounds
Chickasabogue Park & Campgrounds in nearby Mobile Bay has 74 camping sites--with 16 for camp tenting only among its 1,100 acres. Swim in the Chickasaw Creek with its white sandy beach, rent canoes, try your luck fishing from the park's T-shaped pier, hike and cycle along over 11 miles of trails, or do some sightseeing at the U.S.S. Alabama & U.S.S. Drum Battleship Memorial Park.
