Red, irritated skin is a common skin problem that can be caused by a variety of factors, including allergic reaction, exposure to airborne pollutants, air conditioning and heating, or simply changes in weather and humidity levels. There are some remedies that use natural ingredients and essential oils to help soothe red skin, according to Jennie Harding, author of "The Essential Oils Handbook: All the Oils You Will Ever Need for Health, Vitality and Well-Being."

Fresh Aloe Vera Gel, Vitamin E Oil and Chamomile Essential Oil

Step 1

Combine ½ tbsp. fresh aloe vera gel, 2 tbsp. vitamin E oil and ¼ tsp. chamomile essential oil in a small bottle or container and shake or stir to combine.

Step 2

Gently massage a small amount of the mixture onto the skin and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 3

Rinse your skin with cool, clean water and pat dry with a clean towel. There is no need to wash with soap unless the mixture aggravates your skin or causes discomfort.

Step 4

Apply a gentle moisturizer to the area after patting the skin dry.

Step 5

Use this treatment once daily as long as it does not cause any irritation or prolonged redness.

Step 6

Store unused portions of this mixture in a cool, dark and dry place for no more than 60 days for later use.

Rose Essential Oil, Neroli Essential Oil and Olive Oil

Step 1

Combine ½ tsp. rose essential oil, ½ tsp. neroli essential oil and 10 tsp. olive oil in a small bottle with a tight-fitting top and shake to combine.

Step 2

Pour a small amount of the oil mixture onto a clean cotton ball in a small bowl and allow the cotton to soak for one minute.

Step 3

Gently dab the oil on the cotton onto the affected area. Leave the mixture on the skin for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse your skin with lukewarm water and wash with a mild cleanser.

Step 4

Pat the skin dry with a clean cotton towel before applying your regular moisturizer to the area.

Step 5

Apply this treatment twice per day, once in the morning and once before bed as long as necessary unless irritation occurs. Store the oil mixture in a cool, dark place like the medicine cabinet for 90 days or less before discarding it.
