A family calendar can help you to keep kids' activities, work schedules and daily life in order. Although you can purchase calendars designed for the whole family, creating your own may be a better choice. Designing your own family calendar will enable you to customize it for your needs, include visuals or color coding, or even duplicate information on your computers and smart phones. Keep the whole family in mind as you create a calendar that works for everyone.

Step 1

Ask your home improvement center or frame shop to cut glass to fit your frame or purchase a frame that includes glass.

Step 2

Use a ruler and a permanent marker to draw lines onto the back side of the glass. You can include space for each day of the week or day of the month, areas for notes or other information or even important phone numbers on the calendar.

Step 3

Add vinyl stickers to the back side of the glass to label each section. Find these stickers with scrapbooking supplies in your local craft store.

Step 4

Cover cardboard with fabric or colored paper to create an attractive backing for your family calendar, suggests Craft website. Avoid busy prints to allow the writing to stand out.

Step 5

Place the glass into the frame, then the fabric covered backing, if desired, and secure with glazier's points. Add hanging hardware.

Step 6

Add dates, events and other information in dry erase marker. Consider assigning each family member their own color on the calendar, suggests MomMD.com.

Tips and Warnings

  • Make time each day to add events to your family calendar or to make sure that the calendar on your computer and phone match the one on the wall. Hang your family calendar where everyone will see it. The kitchen or mudroom is ideal.
  • If you smudge while drawing lines with a permanent marker, clean away the marker with glass cleaner.
