Hypnosis, or trance, is the process of applying your mind to a single thought, in a way that makes it exceptionally amenable to suggestion. While in hypnosis, an individual can journey deep into his mind and replace self-limiting beliefs with those that better serve him. For this reason, many people desiring to lose weight use the hypnotic process as a means of eliminating self-sabotaging behaviors at the unconscious level.

Step 1

Set at least 20 minutes aside, when you will be free from distractions, to experience the hypnotic process. Mentally declare that you will fully emerge from trance at the end of this period, and will become instantly alert should any circumstance require your immediate attention.

Step 2

Set a goal. If your intentions to lose weight are vague and unspecific, you will achieve shoddy results at best. Write a statement detailing the exact weight that you plan to reach and the date by which you will achieve it. Read your goal, out loud, ten times or more. This statement will become the predominate theme of your hypnotic experience.

Step 3

Convert your goal into a mental image. Envision what it would be like to achieve your ideal weight. Think of what attaining this goal will do for you and how that would make you feel. Observe what other people say as they see you taking charge of your life. Make this scene as vivid as possible, full of color, sound and emotion.

Step 4

Induce yourself into trance. There are several ways to do this, but a simple way is known as the classic method. This entails closing your eyes and progressively relaxing your entire body.

Breath deeply for two minutes. When you notice a growing sense of calm inside your body, move your attention to the top of your head. Feel every sensation pulsating through the peak of your scalp, then let that area relax. Going down, relax each part of your body in the same manner: face, neck and shoulders, chest, back and arms, abdomen, legs and feet. Once this is done, you will be in a deep level of trance.

Step 5

Bring back the image of your ideal self. Step into that image, so that you begin to see from this new perspective. Look down and see the lean, trim version of your body. Notice how it feels to be fit and healthy. Observe how you perceive events differently than before and absorb whatever lessons present themselves to you at this level.

Step 6

Allow yourself to come back slowly when you sense that the amount of time allotted for this experience has passed. Bring yourself back into the room, while permitting your internal experience to return with you.
