For a non-smoker, not many things are quite as offensive as the smell of smoking in cars, clothes, hair, furniture and carpets. The smell of smoke can be almost impossible to get out. Regular washing won't always get the job done, and sometimes a different approach is necessary to remove the smell of smoke for good.

Step 1

Rent a steam cleaner, or hire someone to steam clean carpets, furniture or drapes. Steam cleaning will remove oil and tar ash deposits left in fibers of the fabric, according to the Health Guidance website.

Step 2

Sprinkle baking soda on carpets or furniture, and let it sit overnight. Vacuum it up the following day to remove smoking smells. Consider adding a few drops of your favorite essential oil and mixing it up before you sprinkle it on, for a nice perfume.

Step 3

Mix together one cup of white vinegar and two cups of warm water. Add a tablespoon or so of baking soda. This will cause the solution to fizz. Use it to wash walls or your car upholstery.

Step 4

Sprinkle some dry coffee grounds on the floor of a smoker's car. Leave them for a few days, then vacuum them up to remove the smell of smoke.
