With beaches that get filled with scores of sun-soaked revelers or quiet oceanfronts where people can leave tents and chairs in the hot sands for days on end, North Carolina offers a gamut of surf side attractions. People can find a little bit of everything when scouring North Carolina beaches.
Crystal Coast
North Carolina's Crystal Coast is known for its white beaches at Beaufort, Morehead City, Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, Indian Beach and Swansboro. All of these beaches are connected to quaint coastal towns where people can get a bite to eat, do some shopping or get a drink in the evening. These are mostly quieter beaches even during the summer months.
Brunswick
The Brunswick area of North Carolina is in the southeastern part of the state. The beaches here are known for their light blue waters and fantastic sunsets. This area is known as North Carolina's Golf Coast as more than 30 top-caliber courses line the region. The best beaches can be found at Bald Head Island, Southport, Sunset and Ocean Isle. Don't expect a lot of neon or high rises in this stretch of beaches.
Outer Banks
The Outer Banks are a series of barrier islands along the northern tip of the state that offer a wide variety of beaches including Nags Head, Rodanthe, Corolla, Hatteras and Kitty Hawk. People will enjoy plenty of shore fishing for bass, mackerel and flounder, while enjoying the various night spots in the region. Beaches here offer a wide variety of activities including hand gliding, windsurfing and kite boarding.
New Hanover Coastal Beaches
The New Hanover area is in the central portion of the state and includes some of the more populated beaches in North Carolina. People will enjoy Wilmington, Wrightsville and Carolina beaches. These are all located on the coast and near major tourism destinations. Wrightsville is best known for its large pier, many surfers and is popular with college students during the spring.
New Hanover Islands
Several islands in New Hanover region, in the central part of the state, offer top beaches including Topsail Island, which is home to Topsail Beach and Surf City, and the private and secluded Figure Eight Island. Topsail is known for people combing the beaches with metal detectors in search of the alleged treasure of Blackbeard the Pirate.
