Home to the famous Indianapolis 500, Indiana is located in the Midwestern United States. From northern Indiana to the southern part of the state, Indiana has a variety of fun activities for kids of all ages including a family entertainment complex, a zoo and botanical gardens, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, caves to explore and canoe excursions.

Island Adventure

Zao Island is a family entertainment center in Valparaiso in the northern part of Indiana. Zao Island's family friendly activities include miniature golf, go-karts, an arcade, batting cages and a wild wave slide. The complex also has an indoor and outdoor bar and restaurant. Zao Island is open seven days a week and prices vary by attraction.

Day at the Zoo

In the heart of Indiana, the Indianapolis Zoo is home to a variety of animals including dolphins, cheetahs, elephants, the Grand Cayman blue iguana, brown Alaskan bears, baboons and many more. Other zoo attractions include a family coaster, 3-D ride, a carousel, pony rides, a splash park, and a family fitness park. Also on the property is the 3.3-acre White River Gardens. Zoo hours and special attractions vary throughout the year.

Motor Sports History

Five miles northwest of downtown, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is located on the grounds of the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The museum offers an extensive display of automobiles and auto-racing memorabilia. On select days, tickets can be purchased for a bus lap around the track or the more extensive grounds tour. The museum is open 363 days a year and is closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Spelunking

Marengo Cave is a U.S. National Landmark located in southern Indiana. Discovered in 1883, Marengo Cave offers two walking tours for children of all ages and cave exploring trips for children ages 7 and older. Gemstone mining, a "crawl" maze and a gift shop are also on site. Rental cabins and campsites are available. Marengo Cave is open year-round and hours vary by season.

Grab a Paddle

Explore the waters of southern Indiana with Cave Country Canoes. Just 5 minutes from Marengo Cave, Cave Country Canoes offers a variety of canoeing trips to fit all skill levels and experience. With almost 300 canoes and 200 kayaks, Cave Country Canoe excursions allow guests to experience the scenic hills of southern Indiana while traveling the Blue River. Cave Country Canoes operates seven days a week May through August and on weekends in April, September and October.
