Wrinkles are one of the signs of aging that many people dread. Over the years, a combination of decreased oil production, sun damage and depleted collagen stores causes fine lines to show up around your mouth and eyes. Unchecked, these lines can deepen into wrinkles that cover most of your skin. Though plastic surgery is still the only way to make deep wrinkles completely disappear, you can fight wrinkles before they appear and keep fine lines from worsening with a little savvy skincare.

Step 1

Apply sunscreen every single day since sun damage is one of the major causes of skin aging, says dermatologist Doris Day in "Good Housekeeping" magazine. Opt for a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects you from UVA and UVB rays.

Step 2

Use a daily antioxidant cream to fight any damage caused by the sun or other environmental factors. In "Allure" magazine, Howard Sobel, a New York City-based dermatologist, recommends choosing an antioxidant cream that contains vitamins A and C and coenzyme Q10 for best results.

Step 3

Wear moisturizer every day. According to the Mayo Clinic, your skin is more likely to wrinkle when it's dehydrated, and well-moisturized skin makes any wrinkles you already have less noticeable.

Step 4

Use a retinol cream with a concentration of at least 0.4 percent every night. Retinoids are the most effective of the well-researched wrinkle treatments, says Richard Glogau, clinical professor of dermatology at the University of California, San Francisco, in "Good Housekeeping."

Tips and Warnings

  • You can find products that combine these ingredients if you're put off by the number of products. For instance, you can choose a moisturizer that contains sunscreen or a sunscreen that contains antioxidants. If retinoids are too harsh for your skin, try using a nighttime cream that contains peptides or retinol instead. Though you'll get less dramatic wrinkle-reduction, peptide or retinol creams will help make wrinkles less noticeable.

Things You'll Need

  • Sunscreen
  • Antioxidant cream
