Houston, Texas, is the fifth largest city in the U.S. and is located just 40 miles inland from the Texas Gulf Coast. Houston is a big sports city and is home to the NFL's Houston Texans, the Houston Rockets of the NBA, and the Houston Astros of MLB. Houston is also a town known for people who work hard and play hard and boasts an active nightlife. Food is also a major theme in Houston, and the city offers over 1,000 restaurants, including dozens specializing in healthy cuisine including vegan offerings.
Houston Sports
Catch an Astros, Rockets, or Texans game. Houston's baseball and basketball teams play at home in the evenings at least a couple of times a week almost nine months out of the year, and the Texans of the National Footbal League usually play a couple of night games every season.
Houston Amusement & Entertainment
Play laser tag or have a paintball war. Houston offers several entertainment & amusement complexes that offer a wide variety of video games as well as go carts, laser tag, and even paintballing. Laserquest offers a fun and different laser tag experience, and Mountasia Family Fun Center (in Willowbrook) provides a wide variety of games, rides, and entertainment. Splatterhouse Paintball and Paintball Zone are two well-known paintball venues in Houston.
Houston Theater
Attend the theater. Houston has an active theater community, and boasts over a dozen playhouses including the world-famous Alley Theater. The Alley Theatre was founded over 60 years ago and provides audiences with the highest quality theater. They offer a wide variety of work including new plays, classics, the rediscovered and the rarely performed, as well as new musical theater, focusing on new American works.
Houston Healthy Dining
Eat a healthy dinner. Houston is a food-oriented city, with restaurants in every imaginable genre from Thai to sushi to Ethiopian. Houston also offers many restaurants that focus on healthy cuisine, such as Field of Greens, Ziggy's Bar and Grill, and Skewer's Cafe and Grill. Ziggy's Bar and Grill is an especially popular Houston eatery (with two locations) that has been in business for over 15 years and offers an extensive menu of healthy and delicious foods.
Houston Nightlife
Go nightclubbing. While Houston does not have the same reputation for nightlife and live music as Austin, Houston does have a number of popular nightclubs and a lively local music scene. Warren's Inn in downtown Houston is a very popular, classic-style bar that has been in business for over 20 years and attracts many regular visitors. The Continental Club is a well-known music venue housed in an historic 1920s-era building, and hosts live music performances almost every night of the week. Club 2020, located in an historic Art Deco movie theater, is a popular gay night club.
