Running is a sport that is extremely tough on your knees. If your knee is bothering you, the best thing you can do--but the last thing a runner wants to do--is allow the body time to rest and heal. When you do go back out for a run, it is important to keep your knee protected and stabilized to prevent further injury. Wrapping your knee is note a cure-all, and if pain persists, see a doctor. Use an elastic bandage for general knee relief for running.

Step 1

Hold the elastic bandage in one hand and place the free end just below the knee cap. Keep the leg straight while wrapping the knee.

Step 2

Wrap the bandage once around the upper shin, over the free end to hold it in place. Apply a moderate amount of pressure. You want the bandage to create compression, but not so much that it restricts your blood flow.

Step 3

Continue to roll the bandage up the leg and over the knee, partly overlapping each previous wrap.

Step 4

End the knee wrap roughly three inches above the knee. You want to completely support the knee and surrounding tissue, but do not want to continue up the thigh. Use the metal clips to secure the end of the bandage in place. If you do not have clips, you can use a small piece of athletic tape.

Step 5

Walk around with the wrapped knee before going out for a run to ensure the bandage isn't too tight or too loose.
