Cushioned shoes were created with runners whose feet supinate or underpronate in mind. If you have moderate to high arches, or are a forefoot or midfoot striker, these shoes are generally ideal. High arched feet, in particular, do not provide the impact absorption that other foot types do and can really benefit from using these shoes.
