Many runners find that running shorts aren't warm enough for when the weather starts cooling off. Finding running pants can be a chore, however; most pants seem to have trouble straddling the line between too loose and too tight, while other pants can easily cause a runner to overheat. The best pants for running provide a snug fit while allowing a runner to move without restraint and are made with fabric that blocks the elements and allows heat and moisture escape.

New Balance Reach Trackster

New Balance’s Reach Trackster pants sport a tight enough fit that they won’t flap around on a run, but their stretchy fabric won’t hinder a runner’s gait. Its polyester and nylon fabric blend pulls moisture from a runner’s legs and allows it to evaporate, keeping runners dry on a run. Runnersworld.com’s Lisa Jhung reviewed the Trackster, lauding its fit and feel, noting that they are “thick enough to take some chill out of the air” and that “the tapered cuffs won't trip up your stride.”

Sporthill Nomad II Pant

Sporthill’s Nomad II Pant features reflective ankle zips for visibility and zippered hip pockets to keep keys and cash from falling out during a run. They can block out winds up to 20 mph, and their polyester nylon composition provides moisture management. In a Best Gear review, Trailrunnermag.com’s Garett Graubins noted the Nomad’s feel, saying that its “wispy, comfortable fabric accommodates a wide range of temps” and that its loose fit allows makes it fitting for running errands as well as miles.

Saucony Boston Pant

Saucony’s Boston running pants sport moisture-wicking fabric that pulls sweat from the body and allows it to evaporate, while its slim fit is fast without feeling restrictive. In an article on cold weather gear, Jhung praised the Boston pants for their “stretchy comfort and slim-at-the-ankles cut” and noted their leg zips, which makes it easy to put on or take off while wearing shoes.

Sugoi Sensia

With 100 percent polyester fabric, Sugoi's Sensia women's running pants are lightweight and flexible, allowing a runner a full range of motion with no stride restriction. A low-cut waist provides a comfortable fit, and flared ankles make them easy to put on and take of with shoes on. Jhung reviewed the Sensias, writing that their fleece interior makes them "a go-to choice for cold weather." Jhung also noted the Sensia's low waist and flared ankle, saying that they worked just as well "both on the run and out to lunch."
