Fungi can use your body as a means of nutrition and act in a parasitic manner. The fungus causes you to crave food like sugar that benefits the fungus rather than you. One common fungus is yeast, or candida, which naturally lives in your body, but can cause negative side effects when out of balance with other bacteria in your body. If the candida overpopulates your mouth, gastrointestinal tract, genital or urinary tract and your natural flora or healthy bacteria, you can develop a yeast infection. According to the "The Fungus Link" by Doug Kaufmann, a fungal infection can reveal itself through symptoms such as itchy scalp, itchy eyes, nose and throat, chronic genital itching, night sweats, and carbohydrate or sugar cravings.
Remove Sugar
If you are on a cleansing diet to remove fungi from your body, first remove sugar from your diet because fungi thrive on sugar. Because sugar is their food source, they cause you to crave processed foods high in sugar and starch. This includes bread, crackers, cookies, candy and any other baked goods, vegetables such as potatoes and corn, and most fruit.
Remove Most Fruit
You can consume green apples, lemons, limes and berries such as cranberries, but remove other types of fruit because they are high in sugar. This perpetuates the fungal overgrowth rather than depleting the nutrient source.
No Grains
Grains are carbohydrates high in sugar that cause fungal proliferation or growth. Also, many grains have fungus in them before you even consume them. Avoiding grains like wheat, oats, rice, barley and rye will help to cleanse your body of fungi by cutting off their food source.
Eat Organic
You can eat organic, grass-fed beef, chicken and fish while on this cleanse because organic meat is free from antibiotics. Antibiotics exacerbate the fungal infection by killing your healthy bacteria. This allows an overgrowth of fungi such as candida, or yeast. Food low in carbohydrates and sugar can be incorporated into your diet. For example, you can eat eggs and most nuts, except pistachios and peanuts which are likely to have a high fungal load in batches of these nuts. Other foods that are beneficial include carrot juice, because it has antifungal properties. Eat vegetables, but exclude mushrooms, because they are fungi. You can also have plain yogurt and butter, but the yogurt should not have any flavoring or added sugar.
Increase Bowel Movements
In order to remove the toxins and dead fungi, Doug Kaufmann recommends taking a fiber supplement such as psyllium hull or slippery elm. This will add bulk to your waste and increase your bowel movements. Also, add probiotics to introduce greater quantities of healthy bacteria into your colon to create balance.
