For those who love working out and staying fit, working out at home is a convenient option. Burning calories and working up a sweat in the comfort of your very own home has never been easier. Thanks to the onslaught of home workout DVDs on the market, not making it to the gym is no longer an excuse for being unfit. But before giving away your hard-earned cash, you should consider some of the most popular home fitness programs available.

P90X

Created and let by Tony Horton, and perhaps the most popular home fitness program on the market, the program contains a set of 13 DVDs. The program was designed to whip you into shape and sculpt lean, hard muscle over the course of 90 days by following the program through the use of "muscle confusion." There three routines to choose from Classic, Lean and Doubles. The program promises it will help you get ripped in 90 days if you do the workouts and follow its nutrition plan diligently.

Insanity®

Dubbed "...the hardest workout program ever put on DVD," by Beachbody.com, Insanity works on the principle of Max Interval Training. The 60-day program puts you to a test of your endurance with workouts consisting of long drills followed by short rest segments and then right into heart-pounding moves again. The program claims you can burn up to 1,000 calories in an hour. Not for the faint of heart, if followed diligently, Insanity will assist you in achieving your leanest physique ever. The only equipment required is your body and lots of space to move.

ChaLEAN Extreme

ChaLEAN Extreme is a 90-day home fitness system based on what is known as "lean phasing." It adheres to the idea that muscle is what burns fat and dispels the myth that using heavy weights will bulk you up. The program works on the principle that engaging in resistance training in three phases will build lean muscle that will kick your metabolism into high gear and allow you to burn fat for hours after your workout. The program is composed of 15 workouts contained on six DVDs.

Turbo Jam

Turbo Jam is a body-sculpting, energy-packed, kickboxing style workout, designed to not only get you in great shape, but let you have fun in the process, as you kick and punch to the hottest dance music. Working out need not ever be thought of as boring again.

Slim in 6

Slim in 6 was designed to assist you in reshaping your body using what is referred to Slim Training. Slim Training is meant to aid you in shrinking your midsection, thighs, hips and arms in just six weeks. Led by instructor Debbie Siebers and aimed primarily at women, this program combines light resistance and fat-burning cardio workouts to help tone and sculpt troublesome areas, and promises not to bulk you up.
