From its iconic Golden Gate Bridge to the Lombard Street, the crookedest street in the world, San Francisco is one of America's most unique cities. With its eccentric artists to its flocks of wild parrots of Telegraph Hill, any visit to San Francisco yields numerous surprises and excitement. Whether you are visiting for the first time or its your tenth trip to the city, San Francisco is filled with fun activities to fill your vacation.

Bridge

If you are interested in healthy lifestyles, walking, biking or running over the Golden Gate Bridge gives you beautiful views of both the city and San Francisco Bay. Open since 1937, the Bridge is two miles long and sits more than 700 feet above the bay, according to Lonely Planet. Open to both pedestrians and bikers, crossing the Golden Bridge without stopping to take photos is quite a difficult feat.

Walking

Simply walking through the city's different neighborhoods, such as Haight Ashbury and the Castro, can be an activity for the fit traveler. According to Lonely Planet, San Francisco is home to 43 hills, some of which are quite steep. While on your walking tour, visit the Presidio, a large park in the northern portion of the city that also provides great views of the bay.

Food

If you like eating fresh, visit one of the city's many farmer's markets and sample food fresh from the farms surrounding the city. One of the largest is The Ferry Plaza Farmers Market, open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Besides buying and sampling local produce and cheeses, you can also enjoy lunch items such as sandwiches, wood fired pizzas and grilled meats.

Parks

If you want to have a picnic lunch or enjoy some green space, visit Golden Gate Park. Featuring redwood trees and many colorful characters, Golden Gate Park is also home to the AIDS Memorial Grove and the Shakespeare Garden, which features plants mentioned in Shakespeare's works. The main road that goes through the park is closed on the weekends to accommodate bikers and joggers.

Boats

While taking a boat out on the San Francisco Bay's turbulent waters can be thrilling, boat enthusiasts can also enjoy the calmer waters of Stow Lake. Featuring the small, but steep island Strawberry Hill, Stow Lake is a quiet spot away from the buzz of the city. You can rent row boats, paddle boats and motor boats there by the hour as long as one person in your party is 16 or older.
