Many men have found themselves coming to a sudden realization that they've let their bodies go. When it's time to shed extra pounds, though, many aren't interested in spending months on painstaking diets, losing a pound here and a pound there. Fortunately, there are several proven ways for men to lose weight fast. Of course, following these steps will not ensure that you'll keep the weight off; you'll need to continue avoiding the things that led to your initial weight gain.

How to lose weight fast

Step 1

Take inventory of what got you into this overweight state in the first place. Get a diary and keep track of your daily food and drink intake--what you eat, and when--as well as all physical activities. Do this for a few days so that you have a reliable base for analysis.

Step 2

Analyze the results. You'll likely find some, if not all, of the most common traits involved with weight gain: lack of exercise, foods high in fat and carbohydrates, and late-night snacking. Find areas where you need to improve and formulate a plan to cut down on unhealthy foods and increase exercise.

Step 3

Clean out the kitchen. Throw away sweets and items with empty calories, such as soda, which is a very common cause of weight gain among men. Go to the grocery store and try to keep most of your shopping on the outer edges of the store, where the fresh meats, vegetables, fruits and dairy products are located. Stay away from the frozen, processed foods and junk food such as cookies and chips. Cut out late-night snacks and don't eat anything within three hours of your bedtime.

Step 4

Begin running daily--it will provide the cardio workout necessary to burn fat and boost your metabolism. If you don't have the time or endurance to spend long periods of time running, split it up into short or medium-length runs. Try to extend your exercise period by at least a few minutes every day and finish with a spring and then a cool-down jog. Eat five or six small meals daily rather than feasting three times to keep your metabolism running strong. Always take the stairs rather than the elevator.

Step 5

Take regular inventory of your workouts, your eating and your results. As long as you follow these steps, you should begin to slim down overnight.

Things You'll Need

  • Workout equipment or a gym membership
  • A journal
  • Healthy foods
