Campgrounds in Central Minnesota

Located in the the Midwestern United States, Minnesota is the 12th largest state in the U.S. It can be split into five regions: Northeast, Northwest, Central, South and Metro. Central Minnesota has more lakes than any other area of the state.

Things to Do

There is an abundance of indoor and outdoor activities to enjoy in Minnesota. Since Central Minnesota has so many lakes, most campgrounds are featured on or near a lake so there is no shortage of water sports to enjoy. Minnesota is also home to one of America's best hiking vacations, the Superior Hiking Trail.

On the Water

Known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes," Minnesota has no shortage of bodies of water. The majority of these lakes are located in the central area of the state. Lakes Area Motel and RV Park is located near the Alexandria Chain of Lakes. It offers RV pull-throughs, tenting spots and a hotel for those who would rather not rough it.

Fishing

It's no surprise that fishing is a popular activity for visitors. Fish Lake, located an hour's drive north of Minneapolis offers some of the best fishing in central Minnesota. Fish Lake Resort and Campground has RV spots and tenting sites. Bluegills, crappies, perch, walleye, bass and northern pike can all be found in Fish Lake.

Mille Lacs Lake

Minnesota's second-largest lake, Mille Lacs Lake, is located in the central region of the state. This area is a popular tourist attraction due to the many activities to enjoy in both winter and summer. ATV-ing, biking, hiking, fishing and golfing are just a few of the things you can do here. There are several RV parks and campgrounds located in the area. Most of them offer lakefront camping.

Canoeing and Kayaking

Along with an abundance of lakes, Minnesota also boasts several rivers that are popular among canoeing and kayaking enthusiasts. Rum River, located an hour north of the Twin Cities metro area offers the opportunity to do both. Country Camping RV and Tent Park is located on the Rum River and offers canoeing and kayaking outings to its guests. From one-hour outings to trips that last a few days, there's something for everyone.
