If you're looking for something to do in August, look no further than New York state. No matter what the season, New York is a place in which residents and visitors will find numerous activities. Museums, state parks and zoos are just some of the places that provide enjoyment.

The New York State Fair

The Great New York State Fair in Syracuse, New York is the largest event of the state. It hosts nationally known entertainers, food and wine, show animals, concessions, amusement rides and exhibits. With so much to offer, it's something you don't want to miss. The fair runs from late August to early September.

Museums

Make August the month to tour one of the numerous museums throughout the state. You'll enrich your life with the knowledge that comes from visiting the more than 70 museums in the area. The New York State Museum in Albany features 12 ongoing exhibits that explore different topics, ranging from 911 response to the Adirondack wilderness.

Amusement and Water Parks

New York State has 12 amusement parks and four large water parks throughout the state. August is a great time to take advantage of these theme parks. Some even have indoor water parks. One such place is Six Flags in Lake George, New York. This park has dry and wet rides. Right across from the park is Six Flags Great Escape Lodge and Indoor Water Park with a 38,000 sq ft water park inside the building, allowing you to enjoy water rides in any season.

Zoos and Aquariums

New York State has its fair share of zoos and aquariums. Utica Zoo and Syracuse Barnett Zoo are examples of ones that are smaller yet provide ample fun activities for the whole family. Not only in August but other months throughout the year prove to be enjoyable times to visit.

Fishing

Anglers will find plenty of rivers, and lakes stocked with fish such as northern pike, trout, perch, bass, and more. The Allegheny River, Black River, St. Lawrence, River, and Cayuga Lake are a few of the more popular areas to fish in August in New York. Make sure that you check the fishing regulations which can be found at New York States Department of Environmental Conservation.

State Parks

Over 160 state parks exist for you pleasure in New York State. State parks provide easy access to lakes, bathrooms, picnic tables, grills, trails, and swimming areas with lifeguards. Hall of Fame

August is a great time to visit a hall of fame. Three distinguished hall of fames reside in New York State. The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, International Boxer Hall of Fame in Canastota, and National Distance Running Hall of Fame in Utica.
