Whether you've decided to quit your job and become a full-time parent or your salary is no longer enough, extra cash might become a necessity. Having a child at home means you don't have the same flexibility that other workers might have, so it's important that you find a job that allows you to make your own hours and either work from home or have the ability to change your schedule at the last minute.

Step 1

Sell things online. eBay is a good place to sell small pieces that won't cost too much to mail, collectibles, baby items and brand-name products in general. As your child grows, you can sell his old clothing and toys. If your child is old enough to go along to garage sales and flea markets, you can buy and resell items you find there. Go once a week and make it an outing, complete with ice cream stops or a picnic, and your child will have fun while you make money.

Step 2

Become a petsitter. Make sure your child is old enough to understand basic safety procedures, such as no hitting or pulling on the dog's tail or ears. Or only take in small, well-behaved dogs that don't present much of a danger. You can also pet sit cats that are left at their owners' houses. You simply have to visit twice a day, feed the animal, clean the litter box and make sure the animal is doing fine.

Step 3

Earn money from your hobbies. If you knit, paint or take photos as a way to de-stress, you could be making money from that. According to the Get Rich Slowly website, the options are limitless. You can set up an Etsy shop and sell your arts and crafts, or you can upload photos to sell through stock photography sites. You can manage the business easily from home, while your child is napping or busy doing homework or playing.

Step 4

Work as a freelancer over the Internet. Depending on your skills, you can try freelance writing, graphic design, software developing, data entry and medical billing. If you have a teaching degree or are an expert at something like foreign languages or math, you can also do online tutoring. These jobs are all flexible and you can choose your own hours to work around your schedule with your child. To find jobs, try a work-at-home forum such as WAHM.com, especially created for moms.
