Maui Jim is a manufacturer, retailer and distributor of high-end sunglasses in a number of styles for both casual and active sporting wear.
History
Maui Jim began in 1980 as a small sunglasses store in Maui, Hawaii. When store owners couldn't find sunglasses that would sufficiently reduce the glare of the Hawaiian sun, they began making their own. Today, Maui Jim has distributors all over the world.
Lens Types
Maui Jim lenses come in super-thin glass; polycarbonate, which is scratch- and impact-resistant; Maui Evolution, which is a fusion of super-thin glass and polycarbonate; and Maui Readers, which are specially designed for reading. Prescription lenses are also available.
Frame Types
Frames come in nylon or metal and can be rimless, full-frame or one-piece wraparound style. Available colors include red, pearl, brown, black, gold, blue and gunmetal/ silver.
Technology
Maui Jim sunglasses use PolarizedPlus2 technology, which features a polarization filter that absorbs 99.9 percent of reflected glare, a bi-gradient mirror that reflects direct glare and an antireflective treatment that catches bounce-back glare.Three rare earth elements are used in the lenses to enhance color and manage blue light.
Protection
According to the company's website, Maui Jim lenses block 100 percent of UVA, UVB and UVC rays, up to 400 nanometers.
