Natural Home Remedy for Removing Scars From Burns on the Skin

Burn scars on the skin can be embarrassing and unsightly, and burn scars from serious burns can be traumatic. However, some natural home remedies can be used to help remove burn scars from the skin over a period of time. These remedies require consistent use of essential oils and natural carrier oils, according to Susan E. Worwood, author of "Essential Aromatherapy: A Pocket Guide to Essential Oils and Aromatherapy."

Step 1

Combine 1 tsp. lavender essential oil, 1 tsp. Roman chamomile essential oil, 1 tsp. tea tree oil and 12 tsp. canola oil in a small bottle with a tight-fitting top.

Step 2

Cover the essential oil mixture with the top and shake vigorously to thoroughly combine the essential oils.

Step 3

Pour a small amount of the oil mixture into a small bowl with a cotton pad inside. Allow the cotton pad to absorb the oil mixture for 1 to 2 minutes before removing it.

Step 4

Rub the soaked cotton pad onto the affected area for 1 to 2 minutes. Leave the oil on the skin without applying clothing or allowing contact with any sort of material.

Step 5

Rinse the skin with lukewarm water and wash with a mild cleanser. Pat the skin dry with a clean cotton towel or disposable towel.

Step 6

Apply a gentle moisturizer to the skin after it is dry. Essential oils can be drying, especially for people with particularly sensitive skin.

Step 7

Use this treatment twice per day in the morning and evening as long as necessary. Discontinue use of the essential oil mixture if it irritates your skin or causes prolonged redness that does not fade after a few minutes.

Step 8

Store unused portions of the oil mixture in the refrigerator for up to 90 days before discarding it.

  • There are several kinds of chamomile essential oil. If you are unsure of what to buy, seek help from a practitioner of aromatherapy or a knowledgeable salesperson from who you can obtain the correct essential oils.
