There are many reasons people adopt. Some believe strongly in the cause and want to help children in need. Others are unable to conceive or carry a baby to full term. Sometimes family members--like a stepmother or father, or even a grandparent--will adopt and raise a child. Whatever the reason, adoption is a positive solution to a potentially challenging situation. Adoption benefits the adoptive parents, the birth parents and the baby.
Benefits for Adoptive Parents
For parents who are unable to have children, adoption allows them to raise a child and have a family. Even though they cannot conceive or carry a baby, they can still be blessed with a child through adoption. Parents who can have children or may already have children of their own and adopt have the benefit of knowing they are providing a home for a child in need. In addition to the emotional benefits of adopting a child, the IRS provides tax credits to pay for the adoption expenses. Also, several companies offer adoption benefits for employees. Holt International lists several of those companies, including IBM, Pepsi, Walmart, Universal Studios and Apple.
Benefits for Biological Parents
The American Pregnancy Association lists several benefits for the birth parents. Most importantly, biological mothers and fathers will have peace of mind knowing they are ensuring their baby a happy and bright future. In addition, the biological parents will be able to continue to pursue their goals and dreams before the pregnancy. During the pregnancy, the biological mother will receive a lot of support. There will be no financial burden to the mother. All prenatal and delivery expenses will be paid along with all legal fees. Counseling services will be available to the mother and her family members. Lastly, the birth mother will have the opportunity to bring happiness to hopeful adoptive parents.
Benefits for Baby
The benefits for the baby are clear. Upon entering the world, the child will have adoptive parents who are emotionally and financially ready. He or she will have resources and opportunities he or she may not have had otherwise. The American Pregnancy Association also says adoption means a greater probability for good educational resources. In addition, the family may choose to adopt more children or have children of their own, giving the baby a brother or sister. Lastly, depending on the agreement between the birth parents and adoptive parents, the child may have regular visits with his or her birth mother and/or father, providing the child with two families with a lot of love and support.
