Sugar free foods offer children healthy alternatives to junk foods that can cause cavities and weight issues. According to Natural News, sugar can lead to a decrease in growth hormones, contribute to eczema in children, and cause hyperactivity and crankiness. Substituting healthy foods for foods full of sugar may upset children but you can make sweet foods children will love without using sugar.

Vegetables

Serve vegetables with meals or as a sugar free snack. Steam corn on the cob, broccoli, cauliflower or squash, and serve it alongside grilled chicken strips for a sugar free lunch. Raw vegetables make healthy snack alternatives. Serve raw carrots or broccoli with fat-free dressing as a dip your children will enjoy.

Fruits

Fruit is naturally sweet and provides children a desert without extra sugar. Try drying fruit at home to avoid store-bought dried fruit that is full of sugar. Dried fruit offers a way to transport sugar free snacks. Serve sliced apples, grapes and bananas with fat-free yogurt or peanut butter as a dip for an enjoyable snack or dessert.

Popcorn

Air-popped popcorn is a whole-grain food, according to the Kidz World website, and is better for you and your kids than microwave popcorn. For additional flavor, add cinnamon, dried fruits or nuts.

Meats and Cheese

Use a cookie cutter to cut lunchmeats and cheese into playful shapes for a sugar free snack, suggests the Mayo Clinic. Pair the meats and cheese with fruit for a light lunch that is a delight to look at and eat. You can also cut out whole sandwiches made on sugar free bread.
