Facial redness is a potentially embarrassing conditional that can be caused by a dermatologic issue such as rosacea or acne or could be the result of environmental factors such as windchap or sunburn. Depending on the issue that is causing the facial redness, the remedy will be different. Some natural treatments are available for the different causes of facial redness that are simple to use and are non-invasive.
Step 1
Avoid extremes temperature fluctuations and excessive weather conditions. For people with rosacea or with sensitive skin, conditions such as excessive heat, sun and wind can cause intense flare-ups of facial redness. If you are participating in outdoor activities during these weather conditions, always apply a natural sunblock with a high SPF factor. Protect your face with a hat, sunglasses or a visor.
Step 2
Use natural skin care products specifically formulated to use for sensitive skin. The chemicals in conventional skin care products can often irritate the sensitive, thin skin of the face, causing facial redness. Always look for the label "sensitive skin" and "dermatologically tested" on the skin care products you use. For a homemade remedy for easing facial redness while still cleansing the skin, apply whole milk to the skin using a cotton facial pad. Allow the milk to soak into the skin for 30 seconds and then wash it off. This is also a natural remedy for soothing sunburn.
Step 3
Apply natural aloe vera gel to the red spots on the face gently using your fingertips. Aloe vera gel can be bought at drug stores or gathered directly from an aloe vera plant. The gel inside of the thick aloe vera leaves is well known for its soothing properties and is often used on blistering burns. To extract the gel from an aloe vera plant, cut one of the thick leaves off of the plant and slice the leaf down the center. Scrape out the gel inside of the leaf using a spoon or your fingers.
Tips and Warnings
- Refrigerate a leaf of aloe vera to add an extra cooling burst to the gel.
- Discontinue using any of the methods above if the redness becomes worse or you feel any pain or burning or develop a rash.
