Although it is good to have your kids play co-ed games, it is also important for girls to play games together, where they can engage in games that a boy wouldn't necessarily be fond of. Some of these games include dress up, makeover and hand clapping games. When girls play, have fun and laugh, they are actually assisting their bodies in coping with stress and illness. According to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, laughter is even used as a therapy because it can make your child feel better about herself and can induce physical changes in her body for the better.
Dress Up
Girls have more options on what to wear than boys, and this may be a contributing factor to why it is common for girls to enjoy and have fun playing dress up. If you have your kid's best friends over for a slumber party, you can ask their parents to let them pack a few of their favorite dresses, skirts and shirts so they can all play dress up together and try on each other's clothes. It is also fun for girls to try on grownup clothes as this makes them feel special and it works more like a costume than their own clothes. If you are a mom, you can teach your daughter to respect your clothes by having her ask you before using them to play and putting them back when she is done. You can also lend the girls a camera they can use to take photos of how each garment makes them look, which is bound to make the game even more fun for them.
Makeover
Makeover is a game in which girls take turns in caring for one another's faces, nails and hair. This may involve wearing make up they have never worn before, doing their hair in a style that is new and painting their nails in fun colors. Be aware that girls might be tempted to dye their hair while playing makeover and it's important to explain to them the harm this can do to their hair and scalp as young girls. Also, children should never handle the chemicals in hair dye as they are highly toxic for the skin and even more if ingested.
Hand Clapping Games
Hand clapping games are popular among girls and they require some skill in hand coordination. Sites such as Child Story Hour have publications with many different hand clapping routines that girls can learn and play both outdoors and indoors.
