Making your own invitations for a kid's birthday, Halloween party or graduation is a unique way to make it special and have the cards follow a theme of what your kids like best at the moment. By making your own cards, you get your kids to become involved in the fun process of preparing for the party and it will help bring out their enthusiasm and creativity. Depending on the number of people you intend to invite, you can make your invitations by hand, or make them online and have them printed and sent out for you.
Step 1
Make a list of all the information you want to write on the cards. This may include the occasion, date, hour the party begins and ends, address of where the party is being held and any other pertinent information for the occasion. You can also draw out the layout of the cards before you actually make them so you don't run out of space due to any miscalculations.
Step 2
Fold your 5.5- by 8.5-inch sheet of cardstock in half to create a card that you can open.
Step 3
Use a pencil to make lines for where you will be writing down the information for the party. You may choose to skip this step if you will write all the information differently for each card and if you are doing it in a more organic and flowing manner.
Step 4
Use thick markers or alphabet stickers to write the introduction to the card with a line that says something like "You Are Invited!" or "Come Celebrate!" The rest of the stickers, stamps, markers and glitter are to be used freely to create fun and creative invitations. The stickers and colors you choose should be closely related to the theme of your kid's party. For example, if the party will have a pirate theme, you can have stickers of pirates, parrots, chests with gold. According to the article titled "Handmade Birthday Cards," published by the Home and Garden Television website, you can find stickers created with fabric, metal, glitter, beads, dried flower and trims for almost any theme you may be looking for.
Step 5
Place each invitation in an envelope or you can simply use a sticker to seal it together and place the address of the recipient on the back to send it like a postcard.
Tips and Warnings
- Opt for an online resource with templates, such as Activities for Kids, if you will have more than 15 to 20 guests so that the making of your cards does not become overwhelming.
