Massachusetts offers children's activities that cater to all family styles and interests. Nature-loving families can enjoy time outdoors at the state's parks, while families who prefer city life can still get active--even in the heart of Boston. Both areas are set outdoors so families with children can get some sun and exercise at the same time.

Native American Powwow

The Native American Powwow is held every fall at Sweetwilliam Farm in Upton Massachusetts. This area features a pond with acres of green grass, willow trees and other plant life. The Native American Powwow attracts families from all over. Enjoy rich Native American traditions and get involved in hoop dancing, story telling and flute concerts.

Fall River Heritage State Park

The Fall River Heritage State Park is made for families who like to get dirty and go hiking or play in the river. The park is set on the shore of the Taunton River, so families can get in the water or relax by the shore. The park also features 8.5 acres of green grass, picnic eating areas and walking paths, as well as a carousel.

Greenway Fitness Walks

The Greenway Fitness Walks encourage families to get moving and walk along with other families in the streets of Boston. Go a on walk with your kids and other families and then enjoy lunch at local restaurants in the city. You could also bring a sack lunch and have a picnic with your kids at a local park after the walk. The walking group meets in Dewey Plaza every Thursday from April through October.

Massachusetts Dance Festival

The Massachusetts Dance Festival is another event that caters to active families. This event takes place in Boston each August for one full week. Enjoy taking dance classes with your kids and watch professional dancers perform live. The festival also moves to Amherst Massachusetts in late August. Kids and parents are encouraged to get moving.

The Zoo in Forest Park

The Zoo in Forest Park is ar family friendly destination in Springfield. This zoo features exotic animals such as lions, leopards and other animals from Africa. The zoo has a train where you can take a panoramic tour around the park. Enjoy walking with your kids through the park and looking at birds and other wild life. The park also has grassy areas for families to have a picnic lunch or just relax. Bring your walking shoes because there is a lot of walking at this zoo.
