Your kids and their friends can frequently wind up inside your house, and a party or a rainy day can turn your home into an indoor playground. You can keep the kids entertained and under control by coming up with some fun and active indoor games for them to play. Some game ideas include animal charades, musical chairs, an indoor snowball fight and indoor mini-golf.
Animal Charades
Animal charades is an entertaining game for kids that can keep them active while inside they are kept indoors. To play this game, one child is picked to pretend that he is an animal. For example, he can hop around like a kangaroo or slither around on the floor like a snake. You should encourage the kids to be creative while playing this game. If a child correctly guesses the animal, he is able to take the next turn at mimicking an animal.
Musical Chairs
Place some chairs in the middle of your living room before starting this game. You need to use a number of chairs that is one less than the amount of kids present. As you play the kids' favorite music, have them walk around the chairs in a circle. When you abruptly stop the music, the kids must all sit in a chair. The child who does not have a chair is out of the game. Take one chair away and start the music again. Repeat this process until one child and one chair are left. That child is the winner of the game. Encourage the kids to dance and have fun as they walk around the chairs.
Indoor Snowball Fight
Kids can have a blast playing this game, but you should put away any breakables before the fun begins. To play this game, divide the kids into two equal teams. Place the teams on opposite sides of your living room. Give each of the kids a clean sock to wad up into a ball. When you start the game, the kids can try to hit members of the opposing team with their "snowballs." When a child is hit by a sock, she is out of the game. The first team to eliminate the other team wins the game.
Indoor Mini-Golf
To play this game, you can turn your home into a miniature golf course. Roll up newspaper pages and tape them shut to make a golf club for each of the kids. The kids can hit a golf, tennis or ping-pong ball when they play indoor mini-golf. Be creative when you set up the course for the kids. You can use pieces of cardboard to create ramps that allow the golf balls to go up and down your furniture. Pieces of paper can be placed on the floor to serve as the holes. The child to complete the course in the least amount of strokes wins the game.
