The most effective way for a man to lose weight quickly is to shed fat gradually with a combination of diet and exercise. Keep testosterone levels high to ensure that muscle is spared as you lose body mass since a high muscle-to-body weight ratio promotes fat burning. John Foreyt, director of the Nutrition Research Clinic at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, told Fitness magazine that investing time in a daily workout motivates you to make the more difficult dietary changes.

Step 1

Eat at least three meals a day and plan your meals ahead of time, as recommended by the American Dietetic Association. Include a moderate level of carbohydrates with two to three meals per day.

Step 2

Consume 20 g to 30 g of protein with each meal to speed up weight loss, as protein burns more calories during the digestive process while serving as the building block for your muscles. Healthy protein sources include lean red meat, chicken, turkey, and salmon.

Step 3

Include a moderate to low level of fat with two to three meals. Good fats are natural peanut butter, olive oil and flax seed oil.

Step 4

Adopt a daily exercise program consisting of cardiovascular and resistance training. Train with weights or machines two to three times per week. Focus on basic exercises such as squats, dead lifts and bench presses to elevate testosterone levels, which promote lean muscle gain. Engage in cardiovascular exercises including jogging, running or playing basketball three to four times a week for 30 to 40 minutes per session.

Step 5

Weigh yourself on a set day of the week and record your weight in a journal. Aim to lose 1 to 2 lbs. each week. Don't judge your progress by the scale alone, as body weight can fluctuate depending on the amount of water you retain after eating a meal.
