Oatmeal, most commonly known as the superfood that reduces cholesterol levels, is also a wonder ingredient for the skin. This whole grain is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use in skincare products. Due to its cleansing, moisturizing, and soothing qualities, colloidal oatmeal, which is finely milled oat powder, is often made into oatmeal soap.

Cleanser

Oatmeal is an all-natural and gentle cleanser that contains saponins. It removes dead cells, acting as a mild exfoliant, and gets deep into the pores to lift out the dirt. Oatmeal also absorbs excess oil leaving the skin soft, smooth and shine-free.

Moisturizer

Oatmeal can also provide moisture to the skin. Once absorbed into the face, it leaves behind a protective layer or barrier on the surface of the skin, so the moisture stays in and debris stays out. This provides instant relief to those who suffer from dry cracked skin.

Soothing Agent

Oatmeal acts as an anti-inflammatory. It brings relief to itchy rashes, insect bites, rosacea, poison ivy and oak rashes, sunburn, diaper rash and other minor skin irritations. Oatmeal contains avenanthramides and vitamin E, which help relieve dryness, itchiness and redness.
