Houston has a vibrant art scene that hosts a variety of classes geared toward kids and families. The arts and craft classes are a great way for kids to engage a broader community and explore their creativity. Houston has a new movement centered around beading and jewelery making. You can visit a bead shop where you can pick and choose from a variety of supplies to custom-make a unique piece of jewelry for your collection. As of summer 2010, prices for all types of jewelry are under $20. Kids and adults alike are taught to make earrings, bracelets and necklaces. Bead shops also organize parties, private events and private lessons that are a fun and unique way to celebrate a special occasion.
Summer Camps
There are many summer camp programs that focus on arts, crafts, music and visual arts in the Houston area. Some camps focus on activity-specific programs, while others embrace all creative expression and focus on movements in art and culture. Camps are either half- or full-day programs, and are generally geared toward children age three to 12. Many of the programs also offer add-on packages, like trips to Europe. Registration is available by the day, week, month or season, depending on the establishment you choose.
Sewing
Sewing classes are available in Houston at local fabric stores. Some even have classes geared specifically for children. Sewing can bring with it a sense of accomplishment and of a job well done.
