Gymnastics is a specialized sport that can be fun and very competitive. A gymnastics business must put safety first and ensure that children will be able to perform with instructors that understand how to train budding gymnasts. Extremely active or undisciplined children can find a positive way to channel their energy by learning gymnastic techniques, body control and concentration while building strength and flexibility.

GAC offers several programs for students including a pre-gym program for ages 1 to 5, a recreational program based on skill level and age and a team program for USAG competitive and noncompetitive groups. GAC offers classes for cheerleaders, a tumbling and trampoline class, a sports readiness class to build strength and flexibility and private lessons. There are special events including birthday parties for both gymnasts and nongymnasts, Parents Night Out in which nonmembers are welcome and Mini Mardi Gras, an annual mock competition in which students showcase their skills.

Gymnastics

Gymnastics is a sport where athletes combine athletic skill, balance and coordination to perform various tumbling, strength and flexible moves. Gymnasts support their own weight as they propel their bodies in the air with precision, grace, speed and power. Gymnastics offers four events for female gymnasts: vaulting, uneven parallel bars, balance beam and floor exercise. For male gymnasts there are six events: vaulting, pommel horse, high bar, still rings, parallel bars and floor exercise. A gymnast is judged on how well she performs gymnastics skills and are deducted for any break in form including toes that are not pointed, a bend at the knee, elbows or hips and not "sticking" landings.

Gymnastics Clubs

Gymnastics clubs are licensed sports organizations that offer either competitive or noncompetitive gymnastics training. In order for a gymnastics club to be legitimate, it must obtain private licensing or licensing from either a well-known franchise such as Brown's Gymnastics.

Benefits of Enrolling Your Child in a Gymnastics Club

Gymnastics is a great way for your child to learn coordination, body awareness, and build strength and discipline. Many parents with overactive children find gymnastics a wonderful sport. Your child will expend a lot of his energy during the course of a gymnastics program and usually will develop into a calmer, more focused and concentrated youngster. Additionally, your child can learn very early the importance of health, nutrition and exercise.

Gymnastics Etiquette and Safety

There are rules and regulations that every gymnast must follow. Your child should enter the gym ready to work out. A gymnast should always wear form-fitting clothing such as leotards, leggings and spandex. Baggy or loose clothing can cause injury. Hair must always be pulled securely back from the face so that it does not cover the eyes in any way while tumbling, rolling or performing upside-down as in handstands or back walkovers. Gymnasts should not wear jewelry--the only acceptable jewelry for a gymnast would be small stud earrings. Gymnasts must refrain from eating any food, candy or gum when in the gym. Bottled water is acceptable. There is no talking while a gymnast is performing. Distractions can cause a gymnast to be injured and in a competition, the gymnast or his team will incur deductions. A gymnast should never perform skills on any apparatus without his instructor's prior knowledge. All gymnasts must properly warm up to get their muscles loose before performing on any apparatus. A proper warmup, which includes stretching, will prevent injury.
