Riding stables in Ohio are able to provide a wide range of services. These include basic boarding services, to full-care boarding and even riding lessons. Students at Ohio riding stables are able to train in a variety of riding styles including Western horsemanship, English and dressage. Some stables such as Horse Haven also will offer direction in driving a horse at cart.

Riding Lessons

Riding stables in Ohio such as the Equestrian Ridge teach the discipline of dressage riding. Dressage is a type of riding where complex maneuvers are performed by the horse and rider. When watching this discipline of riding, movement should not be observed in the rider. Western riding lessons teach the discipline of riding in a Western saddle, and there are instructors who will instruct in this discipline at Ohio riding stables.

Driving

Instruction in driving horses in a carriage or cart setup is available at many of the stables in Ohio such as Horsehaven Stables. Driving is when a horse is in harness and connected to a carriage or cart. The horse and driver are judged on the smoothness of the travel and appearance. Driving horses takes practice and should not be attempted without instruction.

Training

Many stables in Ohio offer horse training for the owner. This can save the owner time, although it is a service that costs an additional fee. Horses are taken through a process of ground work where the horse is broke to wearing a halter and to follow the handler on a lead rope. Depending on the goal of the training, the ground work may include training to teach the horse to follow the handler without the lead line. The horse is then worked through the appropriate riding discipline as requested by the owner.

Trail Rides

Several Ohio stables will take riders on guided trail rides. The rides can be participated in with the rider's own horse or a stable horse can be rented for the day's ride. These rides provide participants with the opportunity to be out of the riding ring while still having time to be on the back of the horse. At Horsehaven, trail riding is viewed as being a reward for hard training.

Boarding

Horsehaven stables and Equestrian Ridge are two of the stables in Ohio that provide boarding options for horse owners. The boarding care at Ohio stables might be only stall care, and the owner is responsible for feeding and cleaning of the stalls. There is also the full-care option with boarding. This option allows the horse owner to come to the stables and ride without having to be concerned with the cleaning of stalls or the feeding schedule of the horse. Full-boarding horse care will be more expensive.
