Diet Plans That Jump-Start Metabolism

Many diets promote a jump-start for the first four to seven days of the plan. The jump-start helps increase your energy level, raise your metabolism and mentally prepare you to begin your diet. According to Liz Vaccariello, author of "The Flat Belly Diet," there's nothing more satisfying than beginning a new diet and being able to see results immediately. Diets that jump-start your metabolism and give you noticeable results quickly, build your self-confidence and inspire commitment to give you a desire to succeed on the diet.

Five to Six Meals a Day

Diet plans that promote eating five to six meals a day claim that it keeps you full, increases your energy and jump-starts your metabolism. When you follow this type of diet plan, you should eat small meals that are about 300 to 400 calories every two to three hours. Choose lean proteins, complex carbohydrates and essential fatty acids for complete meals. A typical first meal would be three to five scrambled egg-whites with 1/2 cup of steel-cut oatmeal, 1/2 sweet potato and a small chicken breast for meal two, meal three would be tuna with lettuce, celery, cucumbers and some fresh lemon juice and one apple, a meal-four suggestion would be scrambled egg-whites with tomatoes and meal five would be a small lean turkey breast with green beans and 1/2 sweet potato.

Hydration Diet

The hydration diet is a basic nutrition plan that promotes eating three meals a day with one snack. Food choices are lean proteins, such as turkey, fish, lean beef and chicken, complex carbohydrates such as brown and wild rice, steel-cut oatmeal, whole grain bread and cereal, fresh fruits and vegetables and essential fatty acids such as olive oil, flaxseed oil, olives, avocados, dark chocolate, nuts and seeds. This type of diet recommends you drink only water and avoid sugary, caffeinated and diet drinks which can cause water retention and dehydration. According to Dr. Melina Jampolis, a physician nutrition specialist , even 1 percent dehydration can cause a drop in your metabolism.

Two-Day Diet

The two-day diet is a strict low calorie diet that promotes increasing your metabolism and giving you an instant energy boost to help you stick with a healthy nutrition plan. The two-day diet is a 1,200-calorie-a-day diet that requires you drink 72 oz. water and no other drinks. The diet recommends you eat lean proteins such as fish and turkey, complex carbs such as oatmeal, whole grains, fruits and vegetables and Greek Yogurt for digestion.
