The Internet contains plenty of websites with content unsuitable for children. Such sites may contain videos with vulgar language, pornography or violent video games. Ultimately, you as a parent are the judge; a website is unsuitable for your child if you deem it to be. Luckily, Windows comes equipped with an Internet browser, Internet Explorer, that enables you to block your children from gaining access to such sites. You can set up your supervisor password and identify sites to block in Internet Explorer 6 and subsequent versions.

Step 1

Run Internet Explorer and click on "Tools," then "Internet Options." Look for the "Content" tab in the dialogue box that comes up and click on it.

Step 2

Click on "Enable" under the "Content Advisor" heading. Then click on the "Approved Sites" tab.

Step 3

Enter the complete web address of the first site you would like to block from your kids in the "Allow this website:" box. Then click "Never." Now Internet Explorer will not allow anyone to access that site from that computer.

Step 4

Create a password so your kids cannot remove the websites from the blocked list. Click on the "General" tab in the Content Advisor window. Then click "Create Supervisor Password." Type the password twice and a hint to remember it in the designated boxes, then click "Ok."

Tips and Warnings
