Heather Garden Twirlers
The Heather Garden Twirlers Square Dance Club offers the chance to get in on some heart and bone healthy activity. In addition twirling can make a person happy. This dance club has been around over 40 years. The dance group meets the first and third Wednesday of every month and meets at the Heather Gardens Community Center in Aurora.
Retired Senior Volunteer Program
Volunteering and staying active makes the heart grow stronger, lowers the risk of depression, and can lessen the risk of heart disease. RSVP is a Retired Senior Volunteer Program aimed at providing a chance for seniors to help others, socialize, and stay active. Let your talents be put to use as a volunteer. Volunteer activities include passing out flyers to downtown businesses in Aurora, help with making caddies for walkers and lap quilts for nursing homes, and musical entertainment and visiting residents at local nursing homes. Here you will find many opportunities to get involved.
Arora Center for Active Adults
Located in Del Mar Park is the Aurora Center for Active Adults. This is a senior center for anyone over 50 years of age. Activities include playing games, computer classes, and outings. To help keep you fit there are dance classes, Tai Chi, Pilates, and yoga. In addition, the members go on day trips as well as hiking. The centers hours are Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Club for Widows and Widowers
The Wow Widows or Widowers Group has 246 members aged 60 to 79. The only requirement to join is that you must be a widow or widower. This group has activities that include dinner, breakfasts, trips, bingo, cards, and activities to help keep you fit like bowling. Dues per year are $20, as of 2010.
Single Seniors Group
Port of Call Singles is a group for single seniors. With 290 members the age range of the members are 60 to 75. This group likes to participate in events that help them stay active and fit. Golf, bowling, and dances are some ways the members stay active. In addition, they have activities like trips, tours, theater, and dinners. Dues per year are $25, as of 2010.
