Texas is a unique state- diverse in culture and landscape. From rolling hills and mountains, to plains and deserts, and small towns to major cities, the Lone Star State has it all. But perhaps, the most treasured retreat of the gulf state for couples is the beach. Whether it's fishing, bird watching, surfing, or watching the sun set with your significant other, you'll always be in for an adventure on a Texas beach.

Galveston Island

According to Traveltex.com, Galveston Island offers 32 miles of beach and is packed with activities. A favorite for couples is horseback riding along the shoreline at sunset. Pack a bottle of wine and some fresh bread and ride off into the sunset for a romantic picnic for two. Other activities for couples in Galveston include: peddling down the seawall on a tandem bike, skating over to The Strand District for a cup of famous ice cream, surfing, and much more. Couples who love history, will especially enjoy Galveston. The Galveston Convention and Visitors Bureau hosts tours of the island and boasts that Galveston "...has more history and stories than cities 20 times its size."

Mustang Island at Port Aransas

According to the city website, Port Aransas, Texas is home to one the most traveled places in the state, Mustang Island. This small community is perfect for couples who love to fish and bird watch. A 24-hour free ferry service is available to shuttle guests to and from the island, and riding it is an adventure in itself. Seagulls and pelicans hover around the ferry hoping to scoop up crumbs, and the sight can make for a beautiful picture. Port Aransas also features quaint cottages along miles of beach, perfect for the couple who just wants to relax and enjoy the view.

South Padre Island

Traveltex.com describes South Padre Island as a small resort town. Like Galveston and Port Aransas, this beach town can be reached by taking a ride on the ferry. Couples visiting South Padre can really experience the island by setting up camp right on the beach. Other activities for couples include: sea shell gathering, parasailing, windsurfing, and jet skiing.

Corpus Christi

The Corpus Christi Convention and Visitors Bureau describes Corpus Christi as "...one of Texas' most popular seacoast playgrounds." This beach city is rich in culture and offers breathtaking views. You and your significant other can take in the city from 235 feet in the air atop the Harbor Bridge. You can also enjoy water gardens and parks and exquisite seafood that's cooked fresh from the gulf daily.

Surfside Village

Couples wanting to escape to a more unknown beach, may want to head to Surfside village. Texaslesstraveled.com states that this small community has some of the best surfing in the state. It's also known for great bay and offshore fishing, windsurfing and diving.
