When your baby is crying or writhing in pain, you'll do just about anything to stop it. Before you can treat the problem and ease his pain, however, you have to know what is causing it. If you have determined that it is gas, a natural byproduct of digesting certain foods, causing your little one's discomfort, you will then be able to treat it and make him feel better quickly.

Step 1

Watch her body language. If your baby is pulling her legs up to her chest or lying in a curled or fetal position, she could be trying to relieve the discomfort of gas bubbles. Trying bringing her legs to her chest or moving them in a bicycle motion to see if that expels gas.

Step 2

Time the crying. If your baby seems to cry more often soon after eating, it is likely he is crying from gas pain. It may help to keep a record of the times you feed your baby and the times he seems to be crying most often.

Step 3

Change your diet to see if it helps your baby stop crying. Breast-fed babies may react to what their mother has eaten. If you suspect your baby has gas caused by something you have eaten, eliminate that food from your diet. If that seems to solve baby's problem, he was probably reacting to what you ate.

Step 4

Call the pediatrician. If you are unable to console your baby, call her doctor. She may be able to diagnose the pain and provide treatment options.
