Awaken to the sounds of chirping birds and flowing waterfalls when camping in the Hocking Hills region of southern Ohio. The Hocking Hills State park offers primitive camping opportunities within just a few feet of manicured trails and jutting rock formations. Commercial campgrounds located within 5 miles of the most visited state park in Ohio feature a host of amenities and organized events. Float around in a swimming pool surrounded by towering pine trees soaking up the serenity of southern Ohio.

Hocking Hills State Park

More than a dozen campgrounds are available in the Hocking Hills region of southern Ohio. Choose a camping facility that suits your particular traveling style and book early. Both campgrounds and cabins fill up months in advance, especially during the fall foliage season.

Hocking Hills State Park offers 13 primitive and and 156 electric campsites. Group campsites and family sites with pit latrines are available on a first-come, first-served basis. All sites feature a concrete pad and can accommodate a 50-foot tent. Campers also have access to a dump station, a camp store, a bathhouse, a swimming pool, sports courts and playground areas.

Lake Hope State Park

Lake Hope State Park, in the southern section of the Hocking Hills region, offers 192 electric and primitive campsites, as well as the chance to sleep under the stars in a traditional tepee. Strap on your hiking boots and hit the Zaleski backpack or mountain bike trails after a good nights rest.

A Rent-A-Camp programs allows camping novices to enjoy the great outdoors without the expense of buying a bunch of equipment and hauling it to the state park. Campers have access to the beach and swimming areas. Canoe and kayak rentals are available from April through October.

Lake Alma State Park

Unfurl your gear at one of Lake Alma's 72 electric campsites. Campers will feel a sense of seclusion when nestled among the wooded campsites, all of which offer concrete pads. Share a romantic moment at sunset in the waterside gazebo, or get in a little exercise hiking around the man-made island on a paved walking trail. Amenities include a swimming beach, playground and paddle-boat rentals.

Commercial Campgrounds

If you prefer unrolling a sleeping bag in surroundings that offer entertainment amenities, consider booking a campsite just 2 miles down the rode from the state park. Hocking Hills KOA is the largest campground in the area. On-site amenities include a swimming pool, a game room, sports courts, a gem mine, a playground and wildlife-viewing trails. Climb aboard a wagon for a sunset hayride or grab the microphone and dazzle the other campers with your ability to belt out a tune on the karaoke stage.

Campground Rules

Pets are permitted at all campgrounds in the Hocking Hills. Rules for bringing your pet along vary by facility. A beach just for furry friends at Lake Alma gives non-aggressive pets a chance to join in the fun at the Hocking Hills.

Firewood must be purchased on site at all campground because of the invasive nature of insects.
