A rice diet can ease digestion and be cleansing. Rice is most likely the first solid food you ate as an infant. Your intestinal tract is in the development stage when you are born, and at 4 to 6 months, it is safe to introduce solid foods, according to "Keeping Kids Healthy." Rice is easy for your body to digest and absorb its minerals and vitamins. As an adult, the intestinal tract needs to be cleansed after years of eating and improper digestion. Brown rice is one of the basic foods to help the liver filter out toxins and support internal intestinal cleansing.

Benefits of a Rice Diet

Rice-based products and diets have become more popular due to a gluten-sensitive population. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye and barley. This protein can cause damage to the villi, the hair-like structures that protect the small intestine from damage. When the intestine is damaged, it can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal bloating, brain fog, weight gain and acne, according to The Celiac Foundation.

One good thing about being gluten intolerant is the variety of rices and other grains you will incorporate into your diet. These varieties offer high-quality vitamins and minerals such as the B-vitamin family, magnesium, amino acids, fiber and protein.

Different Types of Rice Products

Substituting rice based products can offer you more variety and in return assist your digestive process. For recipes and baking, try brown rice flour, which has a more fiber, vitamins and minerals. The texture may be a bit grainy, so add a bit more liquid to your recipe. Brown rice syrup is a substitute for refined sugars in baked goods. If you are lactose intolerant, you can substitute rice milk for some of your favorite recipes.

For appetizers and snacks, try rice crackers. They come in many flavors and can contain nuts and seeds. Add cheese or toppings for a healthy appetizer. Rice chips can be substituted for white flour options and dip with hummus. Brown rice bread is great with an avocado smear and sea salt and pepper.

For main meals try brown rice pasta with pesto or traditional marinara. Risotto often is a choice at Italian restaurants.

As for cereal, try rice based options and look for the highest fiber content with the least amount of sugar.

The 'Wholer' the Grain the Better

The variety of products containing organic grains has increased over the past few years. The grains with less processing will contain more nutrition. Rice cakes, puffed cereals, granola bars and many others have been overheated and lose their nutritional value. Even if it is organic and packaged, the product may not be the healthiest choice.
