Many people follow a low-fat diet and exercise routine to maintain a healthful weight, but sometimes a quick weight loss plan can get rid of those last few pounds. Several fad diets are available that are short in duration and promise to boost weight loss after only a few days. According to the University of Illinois at Chicago, these diets are not meant for long-term use and only a regular practice of healthful eating and exercise will promote lasting weight control. Always consult a doctor before beginning a restrictive diet.
Scarsdale Diet
The Scarsdale diet was pioneered by Dr. Herman Tarnower and was the predecessor to many of the low-carbohydrate diets today. The Scarsdale Diet is a combination of lean protein, low-carbohydrate foods that are eaten for seven to 14 days. The regimen is strict, but you don't count calories. Meals include foods such as grapefruit, protein bread and tomatoes, as well as high amounts of lean meats. The diet promises weight loss of about 1 lb. per day, if followed correctly.
Three-Day Diet
The three-day diet is a short eating plan meant for quick weight loss. This diet consists of eating foods such as grapefruit, toast, eggs and vegetables. Artificially sweetened drinks are recommended as well as drinking at least four glasses of water daily. The diet promises to boost metabolism by the blend of proteins and carbohydrates, and states that dieters can lose up to 10 lb. in three days.
Cabbage Soup Diet
The cabbage soup diet is a seven-day eating plan that relies on cabbage soup to burn fat when combined with other healthful foods. Participants follow a food plan that changes daily except for unlimited amounts of cabbage soup. Dieters can also eat fruits, vegetables, brown rice, beef and skim milk, depending on which day of the plan they are following. The diet claims that a person can lose up to 10 lb. in a week.
Lemonade Diet
The lemonade diet is a strict regimen that eliminates solid foods and supplements for 14 days. Dieters drink a mix daily of fresh lemonade, maple syrup and cayenne pepper for all meals. Also known as the master cleanse, this diet also requires a daily saltwater flush to clear the intestines and detoxify the body. The lemonade diet claims a person can lose up to 17 pounds in 14 days. The diet is not recommended for following longer than 14 days.
