Weight Watchers is a weight loss and maintenance program that teaches you how to use balanced meals and increased activity to achieve your weight loss goals.
Function
Weight Watchers uses a point system, where food items are assigned a specific number of points based on fat content, fiber and total calories. Weight Watchers evaluates your body mass index (BMI), your activity level and your goal weight, and allows you a specified number of daily points. Extra points can be earned through exercise.
Program Types
Weight Watchers has specialized programs for men and women. As an alternative to the classic "points" program, Weight Watchers also offers the simpler "Momentum" program, which helps you learn to handle hunger and find healthy, filling foods that help you stay on track.
Support
Weight Watchers has an online option, which gives you access to a weight tracker, points tracker and activity tracker, along with restaurant guides, recipes and tips. You can choose instead to attend support group meetings where you will receive coaching from a leader who has lost weight using Weight Watchers.
Food
On the Weight Watchers program, no specific foods are off limits. However, high-fat and high-calorie foods have high point values. Eating healthier foods will keep you full and help you stay within your daily points allowance.
