Dark spots on the skin can be caused by a variety of issues. These can include pimples, acne, cuts, scrapes and age spots. Many over the counter creams as well as prescribed medications are available to treat dark spots. You can also use less expensive home remedies to treat dark spots. Always remember to ask your physician before trying any home remedy.
Step 1
Cleanse your face with a facial cleanser suitable for your skin type. Make sure to clean your face thoroughly to remove any dirt and dead skin cells. Occasionally, there may be some dark dead skin cells on the face that can be removed with a facial cleanser and an exfoliant. After cleansing your face, make sure to thoroughly rinse the face with clean water, removing all of the remaining product.
Step 2
Pour fresh squeezed lemon juice on a cotton ball and apply to the dark spot. The lemon juice is very acidic and will also remove any dead skin cells. Over time continued use of the lemon juice will lead to lightening of the dark spots.
Step 3
Place castor oil on the dark spots twice a day. Not only is the castor oil acidic, it has anti-inflammatory properties. According to Granny Med, both of these properties are beneficial to helping lighten dark spots on the face and over the rest of the body.
