Advertising agencies understand the impact of the word "green." Many products can have the word on their labels, even though they may not be so environmentally friendly. Fortunately, there are organizations that actually do certify a product as "green." Greenseal.org states that in order for a product to make the grade, it must be environmentally preferable and provide third-party corroboration of its environmental claims. Many cleaning products are now available with a green seal of approval.

Green4Kleen

Made by Ipax Cleanogel, Green4Kleen products are safer for you and for the environment than other commercial cleaners. The company creates products for both consumers and industrial organizations. One such product, Green Unikleen, is an all-purpose cleaner that is biodegradable, non-toxic ad water-soluble. It contains no carcinogens, and does not emit harmful gases. It is effective for removing oil, grease, light carbon, graphite, oil spills, soot and stubborn soil stains. Another product, Green Bowl, is a bathroom cleaner made of minerals and organic salts. It is environmentally safe and will not corrode any surfaces.

Simple Green Naturals

Simple Green Naturals is another certified Green Seal company. Among their many products, they have a floor care solution that is water-soluble. It is made from a sugar-based acid and plant-based foaming agents. The company is also environmentally conscious, never testing their products on animals. They use packaging that is 25 percent or more post-consumer content, recyclable PET plastic, and their labels are printed with soy-based ink.

Sustainable Earth

Staples manufactures a product line called Sustainable Earth that meets with Green Seal approval. Their glass and multi-purpose cleaners are environmentally friendly, ammonia-free, and alcohol-free. These products are also formulated in accordance with the EPA Design for the Environment Formulator Initiative. They are available online or in any Staples store.

Green Scene

Manufactured by Simoniz, Green Scene provides a host of products with the offical Green Seal, including a deck wash product. They have organic acid bathroom cleaners, green laundry care, green handsoap, dishwashing soap, and even touch-free handsoap. Their website provides the Material Safety Data Sheets, MSDS, for each of their products so that you can see the ingredients and their chemical safety assessment.

Seventh Generation

Seventh Generation provides a range of cleaning products for almost any surface, as well as paper products, baby products and feminine hygeine products. Dedicated to creating less impact, the company has blogs and forums on their website where you can ask questions and share tips with people from around the world. Their baby laundry care product is even Kosher-certified in addition to being non-toxic, biodegradable, hypoallergenic, and phosphate free. They also claim that their products are never tested on animals.
